oh noo, summer is practically over.

yesterday was the finale of the river to river music series at south street seaport, an they certainly closed the season on a good note with school of seven bells and the xx.



i was honestly expecting to be bored to death after the first five minutes of the show, but little did i know, both bands were lovely live.
i had never even listened to the xx before, so i wasn't entirely sure what to expect. all i really knew was that they're british and that they opened for friendly fires earlier in the week. so really, how bad could they be? i was skeptical when they came out on stage. they were all dressed in black, and the girl singer was really androgynous looking. she started singing and i was blown away. who knew a pretty little voice could come out of her??? their tunes were sweet and nice, but all the songs retained some sort of intensity that kept me locked in for the whole set. i really enjoyed them and would love to see them again soon. hopefully they'll be back for cmj or something.






next up was school of seven bells. they have kind of a shoegaze, dream-pop vibe. like, imagine au revoir simone, but trippy. they were also quite lovely. i could've done without the 37656476724 minute song at the end though. i was just about ready to leave at that point because they were making me sleepy. but overall, they were good.






we jetted from seaport after the show to get to death by audio for snakes say hisss!

slow kids and casioclub?!

today we went to yet another lovely free show at south street seaport. this time it was slow club and casiokids. both of whom, i've never seen before, but i've only heard good things about their live shows, so i was stoked to go.
slow club was all sorts of wonderful and adorable. they were just so enjoyable.




casiokids were also quite lovely. they made me remember why i love scandinavians so much. they're just so charming with their broken english. especially casiokids though. they're from norway, and i don't think any of them really speak english. they jsut danced on stage and smiled a lot and sang in norweigan. i had no problem with that.
the one with the bow tie is my secret boyfriend.





next week is the last seaport show of the summer :C
i'm so upset. it has been a good run this season.

more free shows?!

yes, the day after matt and kim, there were only about 458429642 free shows going on.
i ended up settling on the pains of being pure at heart at south street seaport for the river to river music series, run by the same people who run the river rocks music series.

i know, i know ... i've only said bad things about them in the past, but i think it was just my wrath for peggy wang that was getting in the way of me being able to actually enjoy pains.
so, i sucked it up and went.

and lo and behold, i actually like pains?
ok, so maybe i never HATED them, i've just always had issues with peggy.
I'M ALLERGIC TO PEGGY WANKERS!

so, after seeing them, i take back everything i said about the band in the past.
though, peggy is still irritating and obnoxious, and we all know it's true. she needs to take the grin off her face and stop acting like she is the coolest girl around.

ironically, the morning of the show, jay reatard had posted on his twitter:
"Brooklyn shut up ! most of your bands all suck and you are total wanna bees ! The pains of being boring at heart ....oh it must hurt being so bland." his less than endearing tweet appeared on pitchfork and brooklyn vegan shortly after, and it was clear that it would turn into a battle, but obviously, it didn't stop anyone from going to see pains for free.
